Systems worth building,
stories worth telling.

I'm Junuh Ridenour. I build things that move and film things worth keeping. Drones, off-grid hardware, short films, and a media company. Mostly I'm looking for people to build the next thing with.

Engineer & FilmmakerTulsa, Oklahoma

I'm Junuh Ridenour, a high school senior in Tulsa who builds things. Some are physical (a quiet drone, an off-grid charging station, custom electronics), some are companies, some are ideas.

I don't separate the engineer from the producer from the debater. Filmmaking taught me to communicate to non-technical audiences; debate taught me to think under pressure; engineering is where I put both to work. I learn fastest when a project forces the gaps to show. Building a drone teaches aerodynamics faster than reading ever could.

I'd rather make a real thing, imperfect and in the world, than perfect an idea that never leaves my head. If you're building something and want a fast, curious collaborator, let's talk.

WHISPR · primary
detail
detail

A big, lightweight quadcopter whose rotors turn at a constant, very low RPM, using variable blade pitch instead of motor speed for control, so the props move slowly and quietly. Machine learning designs the quietest possible blade across the full pitch range.

Rotor noise climbs steeply with tip speed, the speed at which the blade tips move. Conventional drones use small props that must spin fast to make thrust, so they’re loud. WHISPR does the opposite: big propellers turning slowly at a constant low RPM, controlled by blade pitch rather than motor speed (which responds instantly and keeps a large, high-inertia rotor precise instead of floaty).

The one honest novelty isn’t the platform. It’s ML-driven blade design optimized for low perceived noise across the entire variable-pitch envelope, validated on flying hardware, which the literature hasn’t done. Validation runs on a custom inverted-microphone test stand that measures noise vs. pitch and RPM, benchmarked against conventional drones under identical conditions.

    Killed active noise cancellation

Started by trying to cancel the drone's noise in the air. A dead end: you can't reliably cancel broadband or tonal noise over an open area. Backed up to first principles instead: attack the source, not the symptom.

    Pursuing federal funding

Now pursuing federal funding through a connection with Dr. Sicheng Kevin Li at OSU's Rotorcraft Aeroacoustics Lab, who framed the ML side as a regression + classification problem on acoustic data.

Sol Station · primary
detail
detail

A weatherproof, solar-powered USB charging station for outdoor events and remote sites, built to serve Tulsans without consistent access to power.

A three-box modular assembly: a weatherproof junction box housing the power electronics, flanked by two custom-fabricated charging boxes with a custom angled phone caddy. Once construction is complete, Sol Station will be installed at a Tulsa bus stop to provide convenient, fiscally attractive charging for people without consistent access to electricity.

A week-long internship supporting educational programming for the makerspace community: digital fabrication plus a promotional video for outreach.

The first time I formalized something I’d been doing informally for years: building things out of personal passion and documenting the result. I learned processes across the Lab’s digital fabrication tools and produced a promotional video for its outreach programs.
